From the Washington Department of Transportation: With the Adopt a highway Program your group agrees to enhance and/or remove litter from an "adopted" section of highway at least twice a year for a minimum of two years. (This seems to vary by location however) *All
participants must be at least 15 years of age. In return, the Department of Transportation puts up a permanent sign identifying the section of roadway enhanced and/or cleaned by the adopting group, provides all necessary safety training and equipment, insurance for injuries and collects filled litter bags. For sponsored adoptions the sponsor pays for all costs and removal of filled bags in exchange, sponsors are given heightened recognition for their participation by allowing business logos on the recognition signs. Your safety is our primary concern. To ensure your personal safety in this joint litter control effort, crews receive safety training before cleanup activities begin as well as safety vests and hats. |
